Midwest Academy for Gifted Education is a not for profit institution focused on the social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted students in the Chicagoland area, specializing in the HG+, for ages corresponding to JK-12.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Creating a learning environment that promotes high levels of engagement, academic risk taking, and student growth;
Maintain health and safety of all students;
Submitting lesson plans for review, as requested;
Designing and delivering all course instructional activities, incorporating differentiation and a variety of instructional practices;
Recommend appropriate instructional materials for use;
Assessing and evaluating student learning progress;
Integrating instructional technology as developmentally appropriate;
Communicating with parents, staff, and administrators; 24 business hour turn around on e-mails and calls from parents.
Committing to continued professional learning.
Attendance commitment of 1 weekend day a month for up to 6 hours for no more than 6 occurrences during the school year.
Teaching/Planning/Supervising during published academic school year days:
The professional work day is from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with student attendance between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Attending outside of school hours meetings and events:
Weekly staff meeting until 4 p.m.
One (1) weekend day a month for up to 6 hours no more than six (6) times during the school year.
Monthly school event after school hours no more than eight (8) times a year. Events may last until 9 p.m. and for which there is at minimum two (2) weeks prior notice to the event.
Collaborating with other instructors/staff/administrators
Supervising students during arrivals, dismissals, and snacks/meals, managing the classroom, and managing student schedules to ensure timeliness (e.g. on-time dismissal, appropriate meal time, etc.)
Setting and managing expectations with students and parents.
Teaching primarily students who are 4-5 year old.
Supervising different age group during some cross-age opportunities, such as during a reading buddies activity.
Supervising one overnight trip, such as a museum sleepover with students and families or a family overnight camping experience with an older age students and families.
Bachelor's degree with transcript. At least 60 credit hours in elementary education with at least 21 credit hours in early childhood;
Master's degree, at least three years of lead teaching and experience with gifted and twice exceptional students preferred;
Gifted endorsement strongly preferred;
Experience teaching accelerated, telescoping, and/or compacted curricula;
Experience finding appropriate reading materials for high lexile and or comprehension readers;
Project and child-led learning experience;
Deep familiarity with early children’s literature;
Experience with reading assessment and common interventions;
Subject matter expertise as appropriate up through at least 6th grade is required; 8th grade preferred, in mathematics, reading, writing, and science;
Facility with a variety of teaching methods;
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
An understanding of issues that affect students and their families;
Flexibility to attend to myriad professional responsibilities;
Mobility to supervise active children;
Ability to lift up to 40/50 pounds;
Must be able to ambulate up and down 4 flights of stairs multiple times a day and walk at least 2 city blocks;
Ability to run occasionally for at least a few minutes
Ability to work in a variety of positions in an instructional setting for 3-5 minutes at a time, such as squatting, stooping or bending over from the waist, kneeling, or even lying on the floor and ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Must have a valid driver’s license;
Must be willing to visit new student’s homes once to ease transition into the school;
Positive discipline and regulation experience, such as mindfulness training, zones of regulation;
Tolerance for allowing movement during activities where it is safe to do so.
Professional attire (business casual), athletic shoes encouraged. No open toed shoes or slippers unless there is medical need.
Experience with scholastic competition teams;
Experience in putting on a class or school performance or production;
Interest in sponsoring a student interest club that might meet once a week after school;
Interest in coaching a sport or an activity such as track and field, baseball, chess, theater, choir;
Ability to speak/teach a foreign or classic language;
Ability to play/teach an instrument.
Previous State of Illinois Gateways registration preferred or will need to complete registration prior to job;
Completed or willing to complete mandatory reporter training prior to starting the job;
CPR certification either current or willing to obtain prior to starting the job;
Commits to a minimum of a year contract, with 2 month notice if wishing to leave;
In order to start working, educators must pass background check and provide a current physical examination including TB test and other vaccines.
One of the teacher’s children receives a tuition waiver for the duration of employment at the school. A plan for siblings is currently under consideration;
10 paid vacation or sick days a year;
Continuing education possible after one (1) full year of employment, provided MAGE meets enrollment thresholds.
Compensation commensurate with experience.
