You are invited to travel: DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE! Imagine spending a morning treading on the earth¹s surface alongside dinosaurs. Imagine swimming with whales in the cold waters of Canada before lunch. After lunch imagine looking into the night and peering back through time. What about spending a morning exploring the smallest pieces of stuff in the cosmos and walking on an Illinois prairie in the afternoon? You don¹t have to imagine any of this! All will be possible if you come to the first ever (and subsequently annual) Science Education Summer Institute at National-Louis University (NLU). Down the Rabbit Hole: Using Informal Sites to Teach and Learn Science will be offered Monday 6/23 through Friday 6/27 from 9:00 am to 4 pm on the Wheeling campus northwest of Chicago. A unique feature of this institute is that participants will spend one day in downtown Chicago visiting the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium, and the Shedd Aquarium. Another day will be spent at Fermilab. This summer institute is open to all teachers (and other interested educators and parents) in public, private or home schools. We will be specifically addressing the teaching of K-8 students. The fee for the Institute is $300. You will need to provide your own transportation to the Museums and Fermilab. If you choose, you may take the Institute for graduate credit instead. You can enroll in SCE 525: Using Informal Sites to Teach Science. In Illinois this course does count as an endorsement course for middle school science and any general education science requirements for teacher certification. If you choose to take the course the Institute fee will be waived. You don¹t need a parachute just be willing to let your imagination fly as you soar down the Rabbit Hole with the Science Education Faculty of NLU. See you in June.
