WHAT WILL BE COVERED?
Individuals interested in a
comprehensive overview of gifted education and gifted students will benefit
from this course. Participants
will gain a perspective of gifted education by examining topics that include:
Elements of curriculum
design, and instructional strategies will be modeled and developed for
differentiation, compacting, infusing higher level thinking skills, independent
study, and assessment. Guidelines
for the content, process, and product differentiation will be reviewed.
At the conclusion of the
course, participants will be able to:

Understand the
breakthroughs and trends in the history of gifted education and research
¬
Recognize and dispel
myths associated with gifted education
¬
Understand the
intellectual, as well as the social and emotional characteristics of gifted
students
¬
Develop an understanding
of process used for the identification of gifted students
¬
Understand the different
program options available for gifted children
¬
Recognize various
curriculum design models for gifted education
¬
Apply curriculum design
models to district curriculum for the purpose of development, implementation,
and evaluation of instruction for gifted students
¬
Analyze components of
current school gifted programming and identify and evaluate models currently in
use
¬
Advocate for gifted
students.

Knowledge Standards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11.

will meet: July 23, 24, 25, 26, 30 & 31, 2007 from 8:30 AM to 3:45 PM

by: Mary Ann Paradise and other experts in the field of gifted education

Northwestern University, Evanston Campus
Mary Ann has presented the Summer
Institute/Gifted Overview many times over the past 15 years. She has presented workshops and
provided support and consultation for school districts and their gifted
programs around the northern Illinois area. Mary Ann is the former Executive Director and past president
for the Illinois Association for Gifted Children and currently co-chairs the
annual IAGC Convention. She is the
coordinator of the gifted program for the Lincolnwood Schools and serves on the
Gifted Advisory Board for North Cook Intermediate Service Center.

Three hours of graduate credit through Aurora University
for an additional $300. The registration for graduate credit
will take place on the first day of the class.
