Attendees will explore what comprises an ideal advanced academic program, including its corresponding needs assessment, identification systems, and range of interventions. Time will be spent on evaluating existing program documents (vision, mission, goals, policies, etc.), but the majority of the workshop will focus on identifying student needs and selecting and developing interventions that, if provided to advanced learners, will assure a better level of challenge. The emphasis will be on designing programs and services that meet the needs of students that would otherwise go underdeveloped in K–12 schools. Participants will receive Dr. Peter’s book, Beyond Gifted Education: Designing and Implementing Advanced Academic Programs.
